This backing is more popularly known as the Dow Enhancer Technology and is also bound with recycled polyester. Not only does the polyurethane cushion backed tile offer cushion to the feet, it also reduces energy consumption on the carpet tile line by 45%.

Advantages of Polyurethane Backing:

Work Place Noise:

Buildings with high occupancy workplace generate high levels of traffic and noise which can affect productivity, concentration and employee morale. A study conducted by ASID states that ‘acoustic properties of a flooring system are strongly influenced by the addition of cushion in the commercial workplace’.

Reduces Muscle Fatigue:

Major cause of fatigue arise from constant strain to the soleus muscle. A University of Pittsburg study shows that carpet made from ENHANCER * Technology reduces response in the soleus muscle up to 24%.

CRI Green Label Program:

All carpet products made in the United States must meet standards for volatile organic compounds including specific maximums for styrene, 4 PC and formaldehyde compound. To meet the Green Label requirement for total VOCs, carpet emissions must not exceed 0.5 milligrams per square meter per hour. Carpet products manufactured using cushioned technology by Standard Carpets meets the CRI’s Green Label program.

Sound Absorption (ASTM C 423):

The test method used evaluates the propensity of the material to absorb sound range over audible frequencies. Independent test results indicate that a 24 oz. carpet made with Enhancer technology yield a sound absorption value of (0.25H).

Smoke Density (ASTM E 662):

A minimum rating of <450 is a minimum requirement for most building codes throughout the world. However, carpets made with Dow Enhancer technology produce results as low as 300 on the smoke density index in flaming mode.

Hexapod Tumble Drum Test:

Tumble Drum Test method is recommended by the Carpet and Rug Institute for commercial carpets. The carpet samples are simulated for 12,000 cycles with an 8.4-lb steel ball with six mounted rubber studs. Once the testing is completed, the carpet is graded for wear on the Appearance Retention Index. The results produce a result between moderate (3) and slight change (4). The lamination strength of precoat layer ensures that the carpet retains its appearance over an extended period of time which reduces pilling and fuzzing.
